Mario Birthday Cake

My nephew had a Mario themed 5th birthday party and my sister asked if I would make the cake. I did a little research and pulled ideas from other cakes online. I loved the cakes that had the red mushroom on top but decided that red is way too hard to make and that a green "1-up" would work just fine. For the mushroom I used the same pan that I used to make the belly baby shower cake seen HERE, then free handed the stump. I cut the drain and parana flower out by hand and my hubby made the Goomba. We used marshmallow fondant and butter-cream frosting. Yeah, it tasted as good as it looks :)

"Mario"... I mean Jonathan

Here it is complete with figurines.

After such a fun party Tyler has decided that he wants a Luigi party for his birthday in September. I guess I better design another "Mario" themed cake!
