Avenger party!

My not-so-little Tyler just turned 9 years old on September 25th! We celebrated the Saturday before with a swim party with his friends. Luckily we are having an Indian summer so it was still beastly HOT and the water was great.

Gotta have a pinata!

CANDY!

Present time

Kids love water balloons!

The Avenger cake!

 Full of hot air

Although I expect perfection when I make a cake, I rarely ever get it. I am however proud of this one, flaws  in all. I'm sure its obvious but the first layer is Captain America, the second layer is The Hulk, and the hammer is for Thor. I know I'm missing Iron Man but I really didn't care to tackle that much red fondant.

My husband made the Thor hammer with rice crispy treats and modeling chocolate. I think he did a great job!

I wish I had pictures of the fun games and kids swimming but my camera broke at the party. (I seriously have horrible luck with cameras)

The Color Run

As I said previously, I am way behind in my posts. We did the Color Run back in August and I wanted to make sure to post it since I post all our runs on here.

Our team name was "Au-gust of Color"... get it? lol

We didn't feel dirty enough at the first color spot so we made chalk angels.

By the end we all looked like green goblins!

We always have a victory kiss ♥

This stuff took days to get off. I think I was picking it out of my scalp for at least a week!

Pinewood Derby Cake

I haven't posted in a looooong time. Like a real long time. First I had trouble getting logged into my blogger account, then I wasn't able to upload pictures. Well, I'm back and ready to catch up! Last month we had the pinewood derby and I volunteered to make the cake. My hubby wanted to make little cars modeled out of chocolate but um these are kids we are talking about SO I made the cars out of Twinkies and Oreo's. It was well received :)

Pack 459!

Here is the one and only picture I got at the event due to a dead battery (that seriously always happens to me). Tyler's car is number 7 - the bat mobile!

Beating the summer heat

I saw the idea on pinterest to put glow sticks in the bath tube for the little ones and thought it would be fun to do on a larger scale. So when our family was visiting from Wyoming we decided to fill the pool with glow sticks for a little night swim. It was a fun activity for such a beastly HOT night!

Getting them ready

Ready to jump in!

Afterwards we put them in the freezer and were able to have another glow swim the following night.

Sonic the hedgehog cake

I started out with two 9" round cakes and used one for the head and cut the other for the hair and ears. I free handed the second cake and kept cutting and adding pieces until I liked the shape.

Next I frosted the whole cake with white buttercream frosting and then used a toothpick to draw out the face

Final step was adding the millions of stars!

Santa Cruz 2012

Its going to be hard to plan any sort of outings this summer with my husband in paramedic school but we had one weekend where Deke AND Tyler were out of school at the same time. We took advantage of that and went to Santa Cruz for a long weekend.

  Day 1 was beach fun

They found lots of sand crabs!

A little chilly for the baby so I kept him nice and bundled.

He kept me warm too

Some of our friends were at the beach the same day we were so we met up for a while

Broderick with papa

My boys ♥

View of the boardwalk from the pier

Day 2 Boardwalk fun

This was the worst ride ever. Notice how I'm double checking my latch to make sure its secure? Oh and see my terrified face. Yeah, I knew I was in trouble here.

Ha, again I'm the only one who looks scared. Figures.

Ok how much of a paranoid mom am I? I have one arm around Tyler and the other holding onto Deke. I wanted to make sure no one fell out!

The swings are my favorite!

There was about one hour in the day that was hot. The log ride was perfect for a quick cool down!

Tyler and I on the roller coaster

We went on the Carousel the most of all the rides. We LOVED grabbing the rings and throwing them into the clowns mouth, just like the ride is supposed to be like!

Broderick was a doll on this trip. So content and happy while we carted him around.

I thought it was so cute how he was looking out the mesh sides.

Day 3 fishing and pier

Another great view of the boardwalk

Lots of cute seals to look at!
